Gibson 1973 Flying V Michael Schenker

The owner of this 1973 Flying V was a German heavy metal fan. He got me (after some protest!) to strip the original 'G-Plan' finish and respray it to look like Michael Schenker's. In principle, it was fairly straightforward - spray it white all over, mask it up and spray the black parts, and then clear coats on top. I then cut back most of the clear lacquer to remove the 'lip' between the two colours before polishing. The tricky jobs were ensuring the dividing line was dead straight - the back of the neck was a particular problem - and avoiding any 'creep' under the masking tape. I had to use some extremely expensive pressure-sensitive tape rather than the usual masking tape - it's the sort used for two-tone Rolls-Royces and the like.
