Sales: parts and tools - strap buttons

I can supply a range of endpins which complement the woods and hardware of your acoustic guitar. Various styles are available in bone and exotic hardwooods, and I also stock the styles used by Larrivee and many other makers. I am happy to fit parts you've bought if you prefer to acquire them directly.

I'm not going to list everything I stock or can obtain here, so please feel free to contact me if you're looking for something.

Strap buttons

These strap buttons provide an attractive alternative to the usual chrome or brass option, especially when used with matching endpins and bridge pins.

These buttons are handmade in the United States, and are lathe-turned, not moulded. The built-in 1/8" diameter screw allows installation in the guitar's neck heel, for secure strap attachment without stressing the neck.

A 1/8" (3.00mm)-diameter mounting hole, drilled to the full depth of the screw, is required. I also supply a tapping tool to thread the hole before installation. A felt washer is recommended to protect the guitar's finish - see lower down on this page.

These ones are also lathe-turned in the US, but have separate screws rather than the captive type. Not as elegant, in my view, but a bit cheaper and easier to fit. A special countersunk brass bushing under the screw head helps protect the button against overtightening. Again, a black or white felt washer is a good idea to prevent lacquer damage and ensure a good fit (see below).

StrapKeepers

Endpin strapjacks are essential if you want to amplify your acoustic guitar, but the strapnut can be too large to work well with straps. Leather or other stiffer types of straps in particular can come off unexpectedly. This specially designed leather attachment with nylon clip is ideal for attaching your strap to the strapnut. It is easily installed and removed, and will not interfere with the use of standard cables or endpin type preamps. It attaches first to your strap and then to the endpin jack on your instrument. The nylon clip then locks the strap-keeper in place so that it cannot come off the button. No modification is required to either your instrument or strap.

The "StrapKeeper" is designed for the typical endpin jack buttons used by Fishman, L.R.Baggs, K&K, Switchcraft and others, but not the smaller diameter jacks found on factory installed systems used by Yamaha, Takamine, Ovation and Taylor Expression system, or the Vintage Jack. (See pics for examples of the different types - strapjacks not included.)

The "StrapKeeper Two" is designed to fit guitars equipped with smaller endpin type "strap jacks" as found on current Taylor ES, Takamine, Yamaha, and others. It is also an excellent fit with the Vintage Jack system. It may also fit many other types of guitars and endpins. (See pics for examples of the different types - strapjacks not included.)

Slide the leather "StrapKeeper" or "StrapKeeper Two" through the hole in your strap. Fold the "StrapKeeper" and slip the loops over the endpin strap jack. Push the non-marring nylon retainer into the groove around the end pin jack until it "clicks". Finally rotate the nylon retainer so that the opening is away from the guitar strap. Remove the nylon retainer by pulling on its keeper cord. If the retainer is especially snug on your strap jack, push on the open ends of the retainer while pulling the cord. Use of the retainer clip may not be required on some applications with the "StrapKeeper two". Its usefulness should be determined by the individual guitarist and situation.
