Sales: pickups and amplification - K&K pickups and preamps - pickups for other instruments

I'm a great fan of K&K acoustic instrument pickups and preamps. Since 1984, K&K Sound has manufactured top-quality pickups, microphones, and preamps for a wide range of instruments, including acoustic guitar, archtop/jazz guitar, resonator guitar, upright/double bass, banjo, mandolin, saxophone, flute, piano, harp, violin, cello, accordion, harmonica, and more. K&K has won many awards for its products, and regularly receives favourable comments in the guitar forums and other media.

I keep most of the more popular models in stock, and the complete range is available to special order. Special order items can be ordered using the 'Add to Basket - Special Order' buttons - please allow about 15 working days for delivery.

I am also happy to fit your pickups if you prefer to acquire them directly.

Please feel free to contact me if you're looking for something special!

Mandolin Twin Internal

The Mandolin Twin Internal is a twin-head, retrofit mandolin transducer, suitable for both f-hole and round/oval soundhole mandolins. It is a fully internal pickup system. Both the transducers and the endpin jack are mounted inside the mandolin. The transducers are attached with special super-thin and strong peel-and-stick tape. Installation of this system should be done by an experienced luthier or mandolin tech. If you are looking for a system that is easy to install by yourself please check out K&K's Mandolin Twin Fusion system.

The Mandolin Twin Internal reproduces the original mandolin tone with very natural tone quality and it is highly feedback resistant. It is used by high end Mandolin Builders like Clark Mandolins and by many professional players.

Due to the internal mounted pickups, the Mandolin Twin Internal delivers even better sound than K&K's previous model, the Mandolin Twin. Plus it doesn't clutter up the outside of your instrument.

With acoustic amps it works very well in passive mode. To connect it to a PA system I'd recommend a suitable preamp like the Pure Preamp or the Pure XLR Preamp.

Mandolin Twin Fusion

The Mandolin Twin Fusion is a twin-head, retrofit mandolin transducer system that does not require any permanent alteration to your valuable instrument.

The pickups attach to the inside of the mandolin with peel-and-stick tape, while the carpenter jack remains on the outside of the instrument.

It provides the exact same sound quality as the Mandolin Twin Internal because the pickups are mounted in the same positions.

The Mandolin Twin Fusion can easily be installed by the musician. A comprehensive step-by-step photo manual descibes the mounting procedure in detail (you can download this instruction manual at the bottom of this page). Special installation tools are provided.

The Mandolin Twin Fusion reproduces the destinctive sound of your mandolin in a very natural "breathing" quality and it is highly feedback resistant.

With acoustic amps, it works very well in passive mode. To connect it to a PA system I recommend a suitable preamp like the Pure Preamp or the Pure XLR Preamp.

Banjo Twin

The Banjo Twin pickup system is designed to reproduce the true banjo sound with very natural tone quality and with very little effect on the acoustic tone. The Banjo Twin works well in passive mode, especially if acoustic amps are used. If a preamp should be necessary, we recommend our Pure Preamp.

The Banjo Twin does not require any alteration of your valuable instrument; all the components are installed with special double side tape or self adhesive fasteners. These will not harm the finish of your instrument and residues can be removed with WD-40.

The two pickups are installed on the inside of the banjo head using a special removable self-adhesive fastening system, specially designed for the installation on the banjo head. This adhesive is installed to the two outer edges of the pickups only. We call this the "Catamaran" mounting technique. Using this technique, the center portion of the pickup is free-floating, enhancing response while reducing the adhesive surface by about 40% and therefore having only very little effect on the acoustic sound.

The Banjo Twin system is equipped with a multi-use endpin jack. This jack can be mounted three ways: on the outside of the banjo (see photo), or mounted with internal drill through installation, or installed in a slot of the outer rim. For the external-mount, the jack is attached with K&K's self-adhesive dual-lock system (similar to Velcro but much stronger). It can be indefinitely opened and closed without wear and tear and guarantees super holding power with absolutely no mechanical noise. This way, the jack can be temporarily removed to fit your instrument into a form-case.

Pure Piano

K&K Pure Piano - Triple Head Piano Transducer Pickup

The Pure Piano is a pickup system for upright and grand acoustic pianos. It consists of three transducer heads, each one of them tailor-made to fit their defined frequency range. The system was developed in cooperation with the renowned German piano manufacturer Seiler Pianos. Seiler have used K&K transducers for their instruments for several years, installing them primarily with their Showmaster Grand Piano, which is played by numerous well-known bands and orchestras.

The special features of the Pure Piano system produce an impressively natural, clean, and balanced sound as well as a quick installation. The Pure Piano delivers a high output volume and exquisite frequency range. Each of the three transducer heads has been specifically processed to fit the bass, mid, and descant tone ranges. This is especially important in order to avoid an exaggerated hammer-sound in the high keys. The three pickup discs are connected to a sturdy studio quality jack to ensure reliable contact over a long period of time. With the Pure Piano, clean and separate transmission is provided for any piano or grand piano, be it on stage or in the studio.

Diameter of transducer heads: (1) 1/2", (2) 3/4"; transducer head height: 1/32"; impedance: high ohmic; output: 1/4" jack

Accordion Microphone System

The Accordion Microphone System consists of three miniature gooseneck mics and a two-channel preamp. Two microphones are connected to one 1/4" plug. These twin mics are for the treble side. Another single mic with 1/4" plug is for the bass side of the accordion.

The included two-channel, belt-clip preamp has been specially designed for use with this system. This preamp allows for bass/middle/treble EQ for the treble and bass side individually, as well as separate volume and gain controls.

The mics attach with a self-adhesive Dual-Lock Velcro fastening system at the base of the goosenecks.

The standard preamp provides separate mono input jack sockets for the treble and bass sides and a single mono out (balanced via the gain controls) to your amplifier or mixer. Other configurations can be supplied at the same price to order. A common option is a single stereo input socket and two mono output sockets; if only one of the mono outputs is used the signal from both treble and bass is blended via the volume controls, but if a jack is inserted into both outpusts separate signals can be sent to different amps or mixer channels for EQ'ing separately.

The lower picture shows how the mics are installed. It shows a preamp with the older logo, but the specification has not changed. Accordion not supplied!
