This Red Label Yamaha FG-140 was made in Japan – the serial number 20122296 dates it to 22 January 1972.
This was one of the guitars that really kick-started the folk book of the 1970s – as well as being affordable it had a great sound, and was nicely balanced, so worked well for recording as well as performance. I’ve had plenty over the years and this one is probably the best-sounding of the lot. Loud and punchy when picked hard, but also sweet-sounding when played quietly. Excellent balance across the strings and up the neck. Good low action; virtually no fret wear; original tuners in excellent cosmetic and working condition. Various minor dings and scratched commensurate with its age, but nothing unsightly.
